Here's the plan for kernelspace...
There is a body of XFS code that is currently in a release
process for a couple of SGI products, and this includes
surrounding RH9 and RHEL kernels. I plan to put that all out
on OSS as the next "formal" xfs release. The caveats are
that the RH kernels have other changes - devfs, lbd,
kdb, etc that people may or may not want. But, in the grand
open source tradition, you can always edit the specfile and
rebuild to your heart's content. :) Also, the XFS code
is not shiny new, due to the fact that it is part of a more
conservative internal release process for paying customers.
Also, bugfixes will be subject to internal release process
constraints, so last-minute changes simply won't be going
in unless they're showstoppers.
However, I think that by doing this, we'll have a couple
groups inside SGI, and the open source community, pounding
on the same body of XFS code, which should be good.
I hope to get the packages out early next week, with
further explanation of what's going on. I think this plan
will make the most sense in an age where we now have XFS
in the core kernels from kernel.org.
