This looks like a somewhat complex situation, and you're also using
a pretty old kernel / xfs version.

If you can try a recent kernel (at least XFS 1.3.1) then we can
be sure we're not chasing an old bug.  It would also be instructive
to take samba/windows out of the mix, perhaps trying a Linux samba
client first, and maybe experimenting with local users, taking
samba out of the picture.  That way you can narrow down the problem
a bit.  (Is it old xfs?  samba? windows? old kernel?)
