I think rpm -ivh --oldpackage <blah>.rpm will work, if not,
there are a million other options in the rpm man page. :)
I'd use force as a last resort.
--oldpackage
Allow an upgrade to replace a newer package with an
older one.
Booting an older kernel won't help, rpm is looking at the database
of installed packages, not what is currently running.
