it works just fine in the 7.1 installation.

Your first scsi tape will be referred to as /dev/st0 and/or /dev/nst0.  
Tar, xfsdump/xfsrestore, etc, all make use of it just fine.  The program 
"mt" provides minor diagnostic and administrative functions for the tape 
drive.  man mt for more info.
