Open file corruption?

Hi,

There has been reports and FAQ about an open file which is modified is 
corrupted after power failure. But is it possible for a file that is opened
for read-only access becomes corrupted after accidental power failure?  We 
have met once or twice that some open files get lost even though there doesn't
seem to have any process which modifies them.  Thanks.
