Adam,

Could you try a simple test that my machine has problems with...? Go into
single mode from multiuser mode, and then back again, a few times? I
usually end up with bits of /var getting corrupted (lock files, PID files
e.g.) if I do it on a system that's been compiled with anything newer than
2.91.
