Well I don't have a sdb14, I do have a sdb, but with only a single
partition devoted to LVM so exactly why it is using 8:30 Im not sure.

As for the data being corrupted why is this only happening now, since I
upgraded to a 2.4.26 kernel and have used LVM and for about a year now? The
errors appear to be in their thousands and some repeat locations, some not.

I really doubt it can be a poor quality cable as this setup has been used
for quite a while and only recently has it showed these errors. The drives
have however been no where near full. In total I have 740gb, and as I have
gone over 75% capacity this is when the errors have started. This combined
with a kernel upgrade makes me wonder what is causing the problem.

I have tried using the CVS XFS kernel, from the 2.4 tree and that still
causes errors. I'm going to try upgrading to 2.6 to see if that helps.

Cheers,
Tom
