Hello.

Is it possible to restore files from a xfsdump backup on a non-XFS
filesystem ?

No. xfsdump/restore and XFS style dumps (all dumps in general really) are filesystm specific. If you want/need a portable backup get and use GNU Tar.

Here is was I get when I try to restore on an ext3 filesystem ("/restore"):

gaspard:/restore# xfsrestore -i -f /dev/nst0 /restore
xfsrestore: using scsi tape (drive_scsitape) strategy
xfsrestore: version 2.2.25 (dump format 3.0) - Running single-threaded
xfsrestore: unable to construct a file system handle for /restore:
Inappropriate ioctl for device
xfsrestore: Restore Status: ERROR

Thanks.
