Hi all, The kernels at oss.sgi.com are the official 1.2 release kernels and do not contain the ptrace fix. The kernels from my site (2.4.18-27) do contain the ptrace fix since they are based on the Red Hat errata. They have the 1.2 patch in there but are not official because they are not tested as much as the oss.sgi.com rpms. There have been no large changes in the Red Hat errata since the last 4 revisions (except the ptrace fix from -27) were all related to network fixes and mainly the tg3 lockups and hangs which are fixed in -26 after 3 months of public disgrace and fooling around by Red Hat. I think it's safe to say the these errata kernels I made work just as well as the "official" rpms but I will never brand them as such. In case anyone is wondering why I made these updated kernels. I do this because of personal needs and I rather have them work on integrating with mainline and fixing bugs then having them spin new releases for errata which come out every few weeks or so. As long as the patching is not hard or difficult I have no issues with building these things myself and helping others as well. At least I believe that should be the idea behind it or something like that. It's late here and I had a busy day so this may sound like rambling. My brain is 2 bytes short of a ping so I'm gonna shut up and sleep now. Cheers -- Seth It might just be your lucky day, if you only knew. |
