I just got my first SGI machine (R5000/180mhz) and got IRIX 6.2 loaded and running fine. Now my next project is to try and get RedHat Linux installed on it. I downloaded the RH w/xfs for SGI iso file and burned it onto a CD. Whenever I boot the indy and try to set up the drive for RH/xfs, I get error messages referring to an invalid cd. Any suggestions on how to properly burn the .iso image so the indy can recognize it and what steps are needed to get this loaded on the SGI machine. The Indy is a Mips machine. You will need the mips port of debian (which is fairly complete) or the development version of some redhat packages that are floating around. AFAIK there still is no easy installer software for the Mips machines although it has been some time. The cd that you are trying to install is a Intel CD with XFS filesystem support. Yes, Irix uses XFS but that is the only common between the 2. Mips machines are a entirely different nature from the Intel world. It's the same effect as trying to install windows on a Mac.
