The Indy is a Mips machine. You will need the mips port of debian (which is 
fairly complete) or the development version of some redhat packages that 
are floating around.

AFAIK there still is no easy installer software for the Mips machines 
although it has been some time.

The cd that you are trying to install is a Intel CD with XFS filesystem 
support. Yes, Irix uses XFS but that is the only common between the 2.

Mips machines are a entirely different nature from the Intel world. It's 
the same effect as trying to install windows on a Mac.
