There is no particular reason to stay with the old definitions, but there's no particular reason (or rush) to change them either. The two definitions produce the same results, and are completely compatible. They're also both wrong, but they've been wrong since the beginning and can't be corrected now (other than by creating a new set of definitions with different names, the old ones will have to be supported at least through kernel 2.8 and probably longer).
