I have a server at work that uses a six disk software raid 5 setup. I use version 2 logging and it's worked pretty well so far. Reads and writes are excellent, with creates/deletes lagging somewhat (as expected). If I would have used an external log, I'm sure delete performance would be fine, but for our intended use of the server it's more than adequate as-is. From my experience, software md raid with XFS works great.

They have asked me what the choices are.

I have been very impressed with 3ware cards in Pentium systems.

Does anyone know if the 3ware x86 drivers work at all in an Itanium?

Or have any thoughts about a pure software Raid?

I know the md driver can do Raid 1, can it do Raid 5?

Thanks
