built the file system with the mkfs_xfs that ships with irix 6.5.13.

"version=1" directory
naming unless you manually specify "-n version=2"
as of irix 6.5.14 apparently mkfs_xfs defaults now to "version=2"
if only i'd update irix first ....

anyway, the files are all displaying now, it definately seemed to be a
problem
relating to the v1/v2 directory naming miss match.
kinda surprised it worked...

questions are, is linux xfs 1.0.1/1.0.2 compatible with irix xfs
version2 ?
I'd be interested in the levels of success anybody has had when mounting
a linux xfs
partition on an sgi machine running irix 6.5.5+ ?

thanks for your help Eric ...

cheers,

I had read things wrong, you're right that the known issue is w/ IRIX
servers.

It turns out that Nick's problem was that he had made the filesystem on
IRIX, with version 1 directories and unwritten extents, neither of which
is supported on Linux - this is probably what caused his problems.
