Actually, they aren't architecture specific, they are "just" a set of patches which allow the linux kernel to be preempted for higher priority tasks (I hope I didn't mangle that definition too much). At any rate, I find that doing things such as long compiles, while simultaneously playing mp3's etc... seem to work better with them installed. It makes my computer feel snappier overall :) I've successfully installed the preempt patches on my old machine - P2 400 and on my new XP1800+ Athlon - all seems to work well. One other note that I'm not sure if I mentioned in my original e-mail - I always compile linux+xfs using kgcc. I'm tossing around using a newer gcc sometime soon, however, kgcc has always worked very well for me. Good luck,

I looked yesterday for the 2.4.16 patches, couldn't find them, and I
couldn't find the preempt patches either, can you point me to them?
