You probably had some heavily fragmented files (doing any p2p downloading or
nfs work?) which required the large allocation for an extent list.

OTOH the 2.6 kernel should never fail a memory allocation request, I think,
so the true bug is probably in the core kernel.  You might try the cvs tree from
oss.sgi.com, which has some core memory allocation fixes in it.

Oh, but wait, you said you have cvs from Jul 10?  Hm....
