No joy, my optiplex still does not boot 2.6.4 with CONFIG_DEVFS_FS not set.
The symptoms are the same as before. The new config file is at
http://shoshana.dnsalias.org/config-2.6.4.txt. A 2.6.3 config, which
produces a cleanly booting kernel on the same system, is at
http://shoshana.dnsalias.org/config-2.6.3.txt. 

Any other ideas?
