Maybe using chattr +S on important files, as said on the list elsewhere
(but code is not yet in release version)

And related to hardware failures, I got very good (until now)
experiences from XFS once when the RAID controller went bad on me while
adding a logical drive; but XFS just had just shutdown that filesystem
and everything was OK, no problems.
