2.5 cvs seems to have turned into the 2.4 tree:

% head linux-2.5-xfs/linux/Makefile
VERSION = 2
PATCHLEVEL = 4
SUBLEVEL = 21
EXTRAVERSION = -xfs
...

perhaps it's a plot by SCO? :-)
