There is also a kernel patch available from the LVM project that does this 
automatically when you perform an LVM snapshot.  (Search for "VFS lock patch")

The SuSE kernels already have this patch installed, I don't know about the 
other distros.

Of course, if you are not doing LVM snapshots, the patch is useless.
