One good indicator you could use here is activity on the projects
mailing list - have a read through the mail archives, this should
give you a good idea on the level of activity on each project.

Fairly straightforward, yes.

Yes, obviously XFS is a key part of SGIs Linux server product plans
(as it has been on IRIX for years) and so SGI has a vested interest
in making XFS on Linux a success.
