I know this thread is getting way OT, but I had to chime in.
I've had nothing but good luck with my Abit KT7A-RAID + Linux, but I
know friends have had trouble, so I've been lucky. Anyway, I'm in the
process of putting together a new workstation, and I'm going with the
Abit KT7E. It has the VIA 686B southbridge with ATA/100 support, 1 AGP/6
PCI/0 CNR slots (thank you Abit!), and can be had for pretty cheap
(check Pricewatch).
It looks like a great board, and you really can't get better
price/performance than with an Athlon system. If anyone's interested,
email me and I'll let you know its performance with XFS + Linux.

Yeah, I managed to avoid that trap... got a revision F motherboard here.

I've got the Apollo Pro 133A set with the VT82c596B South Bridge. I can
honestly say that it doesn't work as well as an Intel 440BX solution.
