I can do the easy part here - send questions 2 through 4 to linux kernel,
you are more likely to get an answer there. The aic build question might
also get an answer there.

It looks a little odd that drivers/scsi/scsidrv.o and
drivers/scsi/aic7xxx_new/aic7xxx_drv.o are going into the kernel link,
but sure enough that happens here too. It looks like something odd in
the config options for scsi. I do not have any ahc defines in my scsidrv.o
module. I would take a look at the scsi config options you have, if you
modified the Makefile in the scsi directory maybe the aic code is
going in both places.
