This happens with Tru64 unix as well as Solaris. ext2 behaves fine,
XFS doesn't. I didn't try NFS v2, only v3.  2.4.2-XFS cvs from mar18
+ 'wolverine'

IRIX behaves weirdly no matter what... :-/
