hi
i have the same problem:
Start mounting filesystem: ide0(3,6)
Ending clean XFS mount for filesystem: ide0(3,6)
VFS: Mounted root (xfs filesystem) readonly.
Freeing unused kernel memory: 200k freed
Warning: unable to open an initial console.
this happens with console on VT or serial.
i use ide disks.
the same kernel boots on a ext2 root partition without problems
(lilo: root=/dev/hda4). the xfs root fs is mountable und xfs_check
reports no errors.
hope that helps.
