No next spring is way too late. We are currently trying to nail down 3 or 4
bugs, at which point, unless something else comes up in testing, we are going
to call it a beta. There will be caveats about what is known not to work, and
what has not been tested, but we are pretty close now. Current thinking is
that we will continue to fix problems as they come up, and continue to
pare down the caveats and to complete the XFS feature set. The beta will
stick with the 2.4.0-test5 kernel base for now, we do not want to introduce
the variables of bumping kernel versions every few weeks at the moment.
We have two parallel (and slightly conflicting) goals here. One is to
eventually
get XFS into the main Linux tree, probably a post 2.4 thing, since we perturb
too much out side of xfs itself. The other is to produce something useable as
part of SGI Linux based hardware products.
