works fine for me for 6 months:

- 1 GB root partition,  /dev/md0, ext3
- 1 partition for the rest /dev/md1 in a lvm1 vg with ext3 and xfs
volume
- 2.4.26 pretty vanilla 
- smp box with 1 GB ram
