Hi Dirk - 

Take a look in your logs, I'm guessing that the filesystem shut down for
some reason.  (disk error, memory corruption, etc.)  Anything that
happens after that would result in the symptoms you're describing.  If
there's anything interesting in the logs, please forward that to the
list.
