well, linux works on it, but not in X (ulfc tells me there is some
preliminary support for this, but i have not seen it yet). if it did not
come with IRIX on it, I am not sure how you could get a copy of it. you
can download the m updates off the web, but you need base irix to be
there.
i would like to see us give copies of irix away (at a modest dup cost or
something) and this may happen eventually, but probably not in the time
frame you are looking for to get an OS on your machine.
