I don't know about what SGI is doing but the old patches, or at least
the code that gets added to sd.c, should work fine with the latest
kernels.  I have had it running on 2.2.17 and will soon try 2.2.18.
Just make sure you have the latest Stephen Tweedy patches because the
SGI raw I/O uses this stuff.
