Folks,
As you might have heard, Microprocessor Research Lab of Intel and Institute
of Computing
Technology, Chinese Academy of Science has a joint compiler development
effort going on
that is based on Pro64. The compiler is called Open Research Compiler (ORC).
We are
not in a position to pledge resource commitment. It goes without saying that
it is to our
interest to keep some organized support and discussion mailing group going
on, now that SGI
has officially withdraw its support of it.
This is what we are committed in the near future:
1. Open source our modified version of the compiler, release date is
expected to be around
the end of this year. Modification includes new optimizations to
exploit IA64 features.

2. Tutorial session in this year's Micro at Austin, Tx (Dec 1). We will give
details about
our compiler, release date as well as what kind of support we will
commit at that time.

We are planning a discussion/support group (possibly in sourceforge) to keep
discussions about
this compiler (and variations of it) going.
We are also interested in knowing what your needs are, what you can
contribute in terms of
projects, resource, ...
Your input is also key in helping us to map out future commitments to our
own release of the
ORC compiler.
