We use the 32bit sgif90 compiler on our IA-64 R+D machines all the time. 
It of course works. 
But you pay a large penalty for running in 'Pentium Emulation' mode, making
large project compilations painfully slow.

A native 64-bit EPIC binary would hopefully speed up compilation by an order
of magnitude.
