The code is certainly 64-bit clean ... we've been running it for about
10 years on 64-bit MIPS systems, and more recently on Itanium systems
(a lot!).

If there are problems, I suspect they will be minor and in the annoying
compiler incompatibilities camp.

I don't have easy access to x86_64 machines, but I'd be happy to take
patches if people find and fix problems.
