systems hostname returns the fully qualified domain name, while hostname -s

Seems like we'll need a workaround for Solaris ... bugger.
Wait a moment ... Nathan's in my office and he suggested adding a -s
option to pmhostname and abandoning hostname everywhere ... we'll
investigate this option, but for the moment I'd suggest Alan uses a
local workaround.
