I assume you're referring to /etc/rc.d/init.d/pmie on a RH-style
installation.

This script basically launches pmie_check(1) at system reboot.

pmie_check(1) manages a collection of zero or more pmie(1) instances to
perform automated performance monitoring.  To get this working you'll
need to choose/make some inference rules for pmie, and then tell
pmie_check about them via /var/pcp/config/pmie/control.
