    configure.in - add support for all the autoconf --FOOdir options

    1. default prefix is /usr
    2. default paths bound for something other than /usr, like /var or
       /etc or anything for Windows are special cased
    3. if --prefix=/some/path is specified
        - /usr/... -> /some/path/...
        - /etc/... -> /some/path/etc/...
        - /var/... -> /some/path/var/...
    4. other --FOOdir=/some/other/path options are supported and are
       used as literal replacements.
