I'll fix this up, esp. since I wrote this broken code IIRC.

Your pmcd.openfds question can be answered by...

$ pminfo -Tt pmcd.openfds

pmcd.openfds [highest PMCD file descriptor]
Help:
The highest file descriptor index used by PMCD for a Client or PMDA
connection.


i.e. its only counting clients and PMDA pipes/sockets.  The names a bit
misleading.
