There was some experimentation done at Aconex using Coin3D (which is
a drop-in Inventor replacement, with a Qt extension).  IIRC, all the
code for that was committed into an experimental branch somewhere.  It
was at the point of demonstrably working (mpvis, clustervis worked) -
but, IIRC, there was plenty of work to be done to get the time control
fully functional - live mode being so much simpler ;)

That is something that's on the longer-term radar (a pmgadgets-alike
tool, not Jonathan) - I might take up where moh started at one point
and see where it leads.  Awhile away yet, still lots of shorter-term
projects.
