This batch includes
-the new 454 Nathan was looking for
- _lots_ of changes to improve the test coverage on Mac OS X ... which
in and of itself is not all that interesting but it has found lots of
portability issues with the QA tests and some latent bugs in PCP itself
(that are the subject of a related batch of commits to my pcp tree on
oss).

Mac OS X QA bonanza
With this changes all but a handful of the first 300 QA tests pass on
both Mac OS X and Linux. Too many changes and too many issues resolved
to spell out the gory details here, but adding cases for $PCP_PLATFORM
being darwin, avoiding the missing proc.* metrics and resolving the .so
vs .dylib $DSO_SUFFIX differences and removing general sloppiness that
GNU's getopt allows were the most common changes.
