Yeah, wow, that got complicated (by necessity though, unfortunately).

Should $max_version be 9.5?  It seems from later comments that this is most
recent, rather than the 9.4 mentioned there?  (e.g. %activity_ctl has a key
for '9.5').  Otherwise all looks OK to me and is functioning nicely on my
local postgresql installation (9.3, FWIW).
