iptables

Last time I was looking at 2.4 I don't recall seeing anything about
iptables.  I am kind of wondering what it is.  I havn't looked at it
myself because caldera won't work well enough for me to setup my dev
system as I want to.  Even now I am using telnet on windows to get my
mail.  *shudder* Anyway, a link to information as to what iptables is/does
would be appreciated.
