   I get about 550 Mb/s (tcp) with netperf on a PIII/1000, with ~40-50% CPU 
idle.
   It's much lower than the broadcom driver, which is close to line rate.
   No tweaks to the driver.

Please retry with 0.96 which is substantially faster on x86
hardware.
