A number of people are looking at the IDE port right now.  The reason
for the lack of IDE support is that raw I/O currently only works for
SCSI disks (as covered by FAQ question #2.2):

We're working to make the product better ... Tom and I will release
our set of priorities later today which will include what we are
working on and what we'd like to see for the next release.  We hope
to have IDE support as soon as possible.
