Did you patch gcc 2.96 as described on http://oss.sgi.com/projects/kernprof ?
What do you mean by "/dev file system support"?
When you say that you see an error message about /dev/profile, then I suspect that you have not created the node /dev/profile.  See http://oss.sgi.com/projects/kernprof/faq.html for specifics.

Hi..
I want to use with kernprof....
But I can't to use kernporf, because of booting halt.....
My work process is follow
In Linux2.4.5, gcc 2.96 20000731
1. adapt profile-0.9.5-2.4.5.patch..
2. check "/dev file system support" and Instrument kernel with calls to mcount() in menuconfig
3. make dep;make clean; make bzImage
4. rebooting...

when my system is rebooting, stop at filesystem.. goto single mode...

so, I can't use kernprof .......
If i check not /dev file system support, rebooting is good work.
But when i run kernprof, display error messge relate to /dev/profile....

Help me... please....
Sincerely yours....
bye
