I'm currently using gcc version 3.0.2. And I definitely do have
CONFIG_FRAME_POINTER turned on.

The kernel isn't panicing. It is only stuck in a deadlock somewhere. It is
spinning in a poll_idle loop looking for something to run, but all the tasks
are in a TASK_INTERRUPTIBLE state.
