Big News: Girl About Town comes to Seattle Spin. Sign up now for the premiere Oct 22nd issue.

Family: Harvest Celebration Farm Tour , Sept 22, free. Various King County farms open up for the day. Talk to the farmers, stroll through fields, enjoy hay rides, get semi-lost in corn mazes, and eat produce, literally straight from the vine. This matches well with fall weather.

Health: Massage for the Cure, Oct 1st, by donation. A fundraiser for breast cancer research, you get a whopping one-hour massage in return for a donation. Come out of this feeling like a wet dishrag.

Food: 2007 Cooks and Books Visiting Chef Series, Sept 19th, $125. The cook from one of America's top seafood restaurants comes into Seattle for a night, and blesses the masses with his cooking talents for a spectacular dinner. * Also the James Beard Foundation Taste America, Sept 28th, $150, of A-level food by Seattle's A-list chefs, of another dinner where flavors blend in top form. * Also, a little more down-to-earth is St. Cloud's restaurant. Besides being a great neighborhood restaurant, they have two other noteworthy things going on, a better-than-bar-band average music calendar and Cooking for the Homeless charity events.

Seminar: Using Geographic Information Systems to Secure Funding and Improve Customer Service , Sept 19th, $699. Since most people learn from visual information, this workshop teaches about using mapping locations to communicate large quantities of information to facilitate understanding and strengthen a case for funding. It's more than just cruising around on Google Earth.

Lectures: An Evening With Wangari Maathai , Sept 19th, $25+. This gal won the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize based upon her humanitarian assistance to the rural poor of Kenya and for founding the green belt movement, planting more than 30 million trees. Learn how she made this journey, having started life on a subsistence farm.

Party: Seattle Met Beach Party, Sept 21st, $100. Seattle Met is trying to complete with Seattle Mag for the must-attend party of the year, so here's their first shot. Now that we're having our August in September, a beach party seems like good timing.

Discussion: Democracy Conversations, A Civics Book Club, every Thursday until Oct 18th, free. Participants read and discuss books exploring the age-old issues of democracy, freedom, and equality, and what they mean for us today.

Medical Lectures: Here's a benefit of having the Hutch in our backyard - they provide a bunch of great lectures for the layman on relevant medical topics: A Tale of Two Vaccines: HPV/Cervical Cancer and HIV/AIDS, Sept 20th; A Dialogue on Stem Cell Research: Facts and Friction, Sept 27th; Age, the Greatest Carcinogen, Oct 4th; and Genetics and Behavior: Discoveries, Oct 11th. Get knowledge dumped into your brain straight from world's leading medical researchers.

Adventurous: Tie Me to the Bedpost, Bedroom Bondage Basics, Sept 23rd, $40. The good thing about this is, you already have the equipment. Learn knot basics, safety, and negotiation. Letting go can be the ultimate turn-on. * Also, Exploring Polyamory , Sept 18th, free. Boy, this has gotta be a big up-and-down roller coaster. On the plus side, you get to add someone new; on the down side, you're now sharing your partner with someone else. Learn about this mind-flip before taking it on.

Organization: Digital Eve, a network focused on women working in technology. This is for those interested in learning more, mentoring, and possibly picking up some new clients.

Seattle Fashion Week Hangover
Last week was the big fashion extravaganza in NYC. If you didn't make it to the big city, here's what we have going on:

Fashion Events: Bellevue Fashion Week just started, with some free events and plenty of shopping specials. This show is really building up to be a substantial force now. * Also, the big deal is the Luly Yang Fashion Show , Sept 19th, $250+. This is definitely one of the top three Seattle fashion events. * Also, planning for the future, Fashion Week 2007 is coming up, Oct 2-6th, another show that's gaining momentum. * There's Seattle International Fashion Week, Sept 26-29th, another up-and-comer.

Street Report: Pike/Pine is the most hallowed site for Seattle street fashion, but this site has been loosing its edge in the last year. There are too infrequent updates and too many trip reports from other cities. The Seattle Times just included this beat to their site for a faux addition of coolness.

Fashion Shopping: Seattle Chic, of one gal's attempt to conquer the shopping mecca of Seattle. This site has the best calendar of shopping-related events and specials in Seattle, and a great boutique directory.

Getting Styled: If you want some style, where the help of a pro would be useful, then the best bets around here would be Get Life Styled for the women and My Haberdasher for the men.

Note: There will be no Sept 24th issue.
