TGS-Inventor/Viewkit/WinXP problems

Inventor gurus,

Has anyone ever tried to build a single process app that combines an ICS 
Viewkit
windows with TGS/OpenInventor viewers - all on XP, not unix.

All the windows are separate (which is what I want), but event processing
is confusing..   I can't call  VkApp::run(),  nor can I call   
SoXt::mainLoop().
Either Vk hangs with no events, or OIV hangs with no events.


I tried to get and dispatch events myself to both Vk and SoXt, but I never
can get the windows to even finish initializing.... so both Vk and OIV
don't get their events..

very confusing.  I'd appreciate others experiences...
