I have just compiled and installed imon-0.0.1-2.2.13, fam-oss-2.6.3 on
version 2.2.15 of the Linux kernel. The compilations all worked fine
with no errors. When I boot with the new kernel, I get a message saying
'imon (inode monitor) $Revision: $' which all looks fine but once the
system is up and running, /dev/imon doesn't seem to exist. It does on my
IRIX 5.3 system so I guess it should be visible. Do I need to do
something to create it or has something gone wrong? I'd be grateful for
any pointers on how to work out why it isn't there. My tests indicate
that fam is working but of course it may be polling.
Would it make sense to use fam in programs which are just interested in
monitoring single files such as a text editor monitoring the file it has
open or are the overheads such that it is only worth using if a whole
directory structure is going to be monitored?
