I'm currently working on a little tool to assist people with their
"umount - device is busy" problems.

AFAIK "fam" plays a major role when people get in this kind of trouble.
Would it be technically possible to send "fam" a signal to suspend ALL
monitors for a certain time-period (2-5 secs?). So that there is enough
time to do the umount? I would then add a little suid-root command to
wbumount to send the signal.
I know this sounds like a dirty fix, but it would probably be easier
than writing a full featured control- and status api (Which would still
be quite useful...).
