Hi
It's best if you copy the FAM mailing list when you have a query
regarding FAM. I've added the list to the CC field of this message.
Please keep it intact in any reply. Thanks! :-)

I have just tried installing SGI::FAM on a Red Hat 7.3 host and a Red
Hat 8.0 host.
After having some problems installing the SGI::FAM module (it seems I
needed to install MD5, Getopt::Mixed, File::PathConvert, and
Test::Helper first), the sample script on the SGI::FAM home page seems
to work fine:
<http://search.cpan.org/dist/SGI-FAM/lib/SGI/FAM.pm>
Have you ensured that FAM is correctly running and responding to
requests on your Red Hat 8.0 host? Try adding "-d" to the server flags
in /etc/xinetd.d/sgi_fam, running a FAM client (such as Nautilus,
Konqueror, or the test program that comes in the test subdirectory of
the FAM sources) and viewing the system log file.
Are you attempting to monitor any files which have symbolic links in
their path (of course this should work, but it could be a flaw in
SGI::FAM or one of its dependent Perl modules such as File::PathConvert,
which now seems to be deprecated).
A reason you would get only the Exists and EndExists events is you can
see the directory you are monitoring, but do not have browse (chmod u+x)
privileges on that directory. Are you sure you have the necessary
privileges? Have you tried monitoring another directory?
Hope this helps
