I believe FAM actually opens a file on the file system it is asked
to monitor when used with the DNotify patch, as used on a Red Hat
Linux system.  This is the way DNotify works.

I think Nautilus and/or Konqueror (the GNOME and KDE file managers,
two of the most common applications that use FAM) have been
modified to explicity deregister any interests it has on a mount
point before attempting to unmount it.

So:
1) This happens when using FAM/DNotify
2) Try unmounting your mount using Nautilus

There are probably better ways around this that we could discuss
if this solution is not what you wanted.
